The
Systems Modernization and Sustainment Center (SMS) is an operating unit
of the Center for Integrated Manufacturing Studies (CIMS,
founded in 1992), situated on the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT)
campus in Rochester, NY. Our 170,000 square-foot facility houses over $30
million of contemporary equipment, supporting solutions developments in
technology bays, including several specialized applied technology laboratories,
and a state-of-the-art training center.

Mission Statement

 SMS
develops technologies for optimal life-cycle design, management, and
modernization of large equipment systems. This is accomplished through maximizing the value of existing systems and designing advanced
capabilities in new systems while smartly managing life-cycle costs.

The Center
operates four main program areas, each encompassing comprehensive research,
applied development, testing, and field implementation, focusing in particular
technology thrusts important to our Department of Defense customers.
